Industry-university partnerships

When we work together, we can achieve great things – for students, businesses and communities.

There are four ways Charles Sturt University partners with Industry.

Workplace learning

Getting practical on-the-job experience alongside committed professionals is a major part of our courses. And our partners offering workplace learning benefit from sharing their knowledge with enthusiastic students who want to make their mark in their industry. For instance, computing students can work with innovative global tech firm IBM, which operates from our Bathurst campus. While those studying speech pathology, occupational therapy, social work, psychology or human services undertake workplace learning with Marathon Health, a leading regional healthcare organisation, based at our Albury-Wodonga campus.

Scholarships, internships and cadetships

Businesses can support students to gain experience, and receive in return commitment and a dedication to understanding what industry needs. We have partnered with Transgrid – which manages the New South Wales electricity network and pioneers clean energy projects – to provide engineering students with training and employment opportunities, cadetships and scholarships. Health students, meanwhile, benefit from our strong links with the Western, Far Western and Murrumbidgee Local Health Districts of New South Wales, and intern across many areas of health service provision.

If you're interested in providing opportunities for students, get in touch with our Industry Engagement Team to start the conversation.

Course development

Working together to shape course content and delivery means that both students and industry get the skills they need. For example, we have developed our dentistry and oral health courses in cooperation with the Australian Dental Council and the Australian Dental Association. Since 1992, Charles Sturt has partnered with the NSW Police Force to provide all their recruit education. And our Islamic studies courses are designed with the Islamic Sciences and Research Academy of Australia – which includes some of the most respected Muslim scholars in the country.

Research partnerships

Innovation comes from combining our skills. In research, industry-academia partnerships help drive new ways of doing things. Just in the fields of agriculture and environmental management, we're bringing together business, government and university researchers to collaborate through our Gulbali Institute of Agriculture, Water and Environment; the Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub; and the Next Generation Water Engineering and River Management Hub.
