Bringing school aged children

School attendance is compulsory in Australia if your child is aged between six and seventeen years old.

Australia has two main types of schools:

  • Government / State – these are public schools
  • Private / Independent – these are private schools

It is an Immigration requirement that school-age dependents of international students attend formal schooling while in Australia.

You must provisionally enrol your child in a school before leaving your home country and you may be required to pay the school fees 12 months in advance.
