Artificial Intelligence

The advancement of artificial intelligence technology over the past decade provides NSWPF with opportunities to implement AI technology into existing police procedures and systems to improve policing practices and build a modernised police force. Although there are multiple ways in which artificial intelligence can be applied in the policing context, NSWPF is particularly interested in research into:

1.1 Ways of integrating Generative artificial intelligence technologies into policing. Application could include suspect sketching, the automation of documentation and paperwork, the automatic processing of high volumes of data for the identification of relevant laws, procedures, and precedents etc.

1.2 Novel ways in which artificial intelligence can be used to prevent/reduce crime.

1.3 Evaluating the impact of artificial intelligence usage within the NSWPF, for processes such as Automated Decision Making (ADM), and predictive and preventive crime analysis and determinations.

1.4 Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and its use within the NSWPF for improving upon transactional processing, and for increasing operational efficiency and effectiveness.

1.5 What cost-effective and practical policing and crime prevention strategies can be implemented to minimise the ongoing risk of criminal misuse of artificial intelligence?
