Man charged with DV and knife offences after pursuit - Casino

A man has been charged with domestic violence and knife offences following a pursuit in the state’s north.

About 6.45pm on Saturday 5 October 2024, officers attached to Richmond Police District were patrolling Centre Street, Casino, when they attempted to stop a Kia sedan.

When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated before being terminated due to safety reasons.

A short time later, the vehicle was located on Churchill Crescent.

The male driver of the car allegedly approached officers armed with a knife. Officers deployed a Taser and the man was arrested.

The 35-year-old man was taken to hospital for assessment under police guard.

On release from hospital yesterday (Sunday 6 October 2024), he was taken to Lismore Police Station and charged with the following offences:

- contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic)

- stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic)

- hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty - two counts

- use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention - two counts

- escape police custody

- police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously

- intimidate police officer in execution of duty

- custody of knife in public place

He was refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court today (Monday 7 October 2024), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Grafton Local Court tomorrow (8 October 2024).
