Woman charged after pedestrian hit by car in Sydney CBD

A woman has been charged after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Sydney’s CBD.

About 11.45am yesterday (Wednesday 9 October 2024), emergency services were called to Harrington Street, Sydney CBD, following reports a man had been hit by a silver Toyota sedan.

The 82-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with head and leg injuries.

The driver - a 23-year-old woman - was subject to a roadside breath test and drug test, both of which were negative.

She was arrested and taken to the Sydney Eye Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command established a crime scene, with Crash Investigation Unit commencing an investigation.

The woman was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm - drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm), cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm) and not give way at lights to pedestrian on road being entered.

She was given strict bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 6 November 2024.

Her licence has also been suspended.
