Man charged following shooting - Hillston

A man has faced court today, charged over an alleged shooting in the state’s south last month.

In October 2024, Strike Force Bettles was formed to investigate the circumstances around the shooting.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District were called to the home on Burns Street, Hillston, about 100km north-west of Griffith, about 2.30am on (Friday 20 September 2024).

Police were told one male and two females were in the home when three people allegedly entered the home, one armed with a firearm.

The 46-year-old male resident was allegedly shot in the abdomen before the intruders left.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Griffith Hospital. He was airlifted to a major metropolitan hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

About 1.40pm yesterday (Monday 14 October 2024), a 22-year-old old was arrested at a hospital in Edward Street, Wagga Wagga.

He was transported to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – inflict grievous bodily harm, shoot with intent to murder and knowingly direct activities of criminal group.

The man appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Tuesday 15 October), and was formally refused bail to reappear in Griffith Local Court on (Thursday 12 December 2024).

Investigations under Strike Force Bettles are continuing.
