A man has been charged with traffic offences following an incident on the Sydney Harbour Bridge yesterday.

About 2.40pm (Thursday 17 October 2024), emergency services were attending to the scene of an unrelated fatal multi-vehicle crash on the Bradfield Highway on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

That crash resulted in road closures in both directions, as emergency services tended to the needs of injured and commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

As police attempted to re-open lanes on the bridge, the rider of a Black Honda motorcycle filtered through lanes of stopped traffic, despite being allegedly warned by police and traffic controllers on numerous occasions to remain within the boundaries of the lanes, to ensure the safety of emergency services personnel at the crash site.

When the rider accelerated away, he was stopped by police managing the inner crime scene. As police arrested the man, he allegedly assaulted police and Transport Management personnel.

The 24-year-old man was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with 12 offences - drive whilst suspended, drive unregistered vehicle, use uninsured vehicle on road, use vehicle on road without tax being paid, use vehicle with unauthorised number plate, disobey no entry sign, exceed speed, not comply with direction to stop (three counts) and knowlingly drive vehicle in manner which menaces other.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Downing Centre Local Court tomorrow (Friday 18 October 2024).
