Charges laid over break and enter - Matraville

A juvenile has been charged following an investigation into a break and enter at a home in Sydney’s eastern beaches last week.
About 11.10pm last Sunday (13 October 2024), emergency services were called to a home on Jersey Street, Matraville, following reports of a break and enter.
On arrival, officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were told a 67-year-old woman had been approached by two males as she entered the home.
One of the males allegedly assaulted a 70-year-old man inside the home, causing injuries to his head and hands.
A hatchet was allegedly used by one of the males during the incident.
The men allegedly drove away in a blue Subaru XV after taking keys from the home.
The 70-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition, and has since been released.
Detectives commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following inquiries, the Subaru was located at Hebersham on Tuesday (15 October 2024). The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
With the assistance of officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command, about 4.20pm yesterday (17 October 2024), a 16-year-old boy was arrested on North Parade, Mt Druitt.
Located in the boy’s possession was a hatchet which police will allege was used during the break and enter.
He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with special aggravated break & enter and commit serious indicatable offence-wound, steal motor vehicle, dishonestly obtain property by deception and carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.
The boy was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Friday 18 October 2024) where he was remanded in custody to re-appear on Monday 28 October 2024.
Following the arrest of the boy officers executed a search warrant at a unit on Kurama Crescent, Whalan, where a bat and several clothing items were seized.
Investigations into the matter are continuing.
