Updated: Double fatal crash - Mid North Coast

A man and a child have died in a crash on the Mid North Coast overnight.
About 1am today (Saturday 19 October 2024) officers attached to Manning Great Lakes Police District received reports of a concern for welfare for a man and three children.
Officers were told the man and children may have been traveling to a relative’s home, when they failed to arrive, police were contacted and commenced an investigation.
About 3am officers patrolling The Bucketts Way, Tugrabakh, located an SUV which had left the road and gone down an embankment.
The male driver of the vehicle, aged 45, and an 11-year-old girl, were found dead at the scene.
They are yet to be formally identified.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
Two boys, aged 8 and 9, were trapped in the vehicle for some time, before being freed by NSW Fire and Rescue and SES crews.
They were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officer established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As investigations continue, Police are appealing for witnesses, following information the vehicle may have been involved in a minor crash earlier in the region.
