Two charged with intimidation, weapon offences - Bathurst

Two men will face court today charged with intimidation and weapon offences after being arrested at Bathurst.

Police will allege in court a 65-year-old man was threatened by two men about 12.30am yesterday (Sunday 20 October 2024), after he stopped the truck he was driving along Sydney Road, Bathurst, when a bottle was thrown at the vehicle.

It will be alleged the men produced a pistol and a knife before assaulting the truck driver.

A short time later, an 18-year-old man was in the carpark of a fast-food restaurant on Durham Street, Bathurst, when he was also allegedly threatened with a knife by one of the men.

About five minutes later, three customers inside the restaurant – two women, aged 20 and 21, and a 21-year-old man – were allegedly approached by the same two men and threatened with the knife.

Officers from Chifley Police District attended the location where two men – aged 25 and 22 – were arrested at the scene.

It will be alleged that a replica pistol and a knife were located in the possession of the older man, and both were taken to Bathurst Police Station.

The 25-year-old man has now been charged with 10 offences,

  • Use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence (three counts)
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal) (three counts)
  • Possess unauthorised pistol
  • Possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in public place
  • Custody of knife in public place - first offence (two counts)

The second man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other, and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal).

They were refused bail to appear at Bathurst Local Court today (Monday 21 October 2024).

There were no reports of serious injuries.
