Homicide Squad detectives have extradited and charged a man for the alleged murder of Jamie Goodworth earlier this year.

About 1.20am on Saturday 24 February 2024, officers attached Liverpool City Police Area Command were called to Liverpool Hospital after a man presented with gunshot wounds.

The man – who has since been identified as 32-year-old Jamie Goodworth – was unable to be revived and died a short time later.

Officers attached to State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, with the NSW Crime Commission, established Strike Force Heye to investigate.

Following extensive inquiries, from about 2pm on Tuesday (22 October 2024), strike force detectives – with assistance from the South West Metropolitan Region, the Public Order & Riot Squad and Queensland Police Service Homicide Investigation Unit, Taskforce Maxima – executed search warrants in Bonnyrigg and Leppington in NSW and Surfers Paradise and Hawthorne in Queensland.

During the searches, police located and seized electronics, cash, and various documentation relevant to the investigation.

At the Surfers Paradise address, police arrested a 24-year-old man.

The man appeared at Southport Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday 23 October 2024), where Homicide Squad detectives applied for – and were granted – his extradition.

About 3pm the same day, the man was escorted to Sydney and taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court today (Thursday 24 October 2024).

Police will allege in court Jamie Goodworth was shot while attempting an aggravated break and enter on Flack Close in Edensor Park.
