Man charged following pursuit - Forster

A man will face court today following a pursuit on the state’s Mid North Coast yesterday.
About 2.40pm yesterday (Friday 1 November 2024), officers attached to Manning/Great Lakes Police District were patrolling Godwin Street, Forster, when they attempted to stop a white Subaru SUV.
The vehicle stopped a short time later.
As police approached to the car, the driver allegedly drove at officers before fleeing the scene.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued through Boundary Street, Forster, where road spikes were successfully deployed.
A short time later, the vehicle stopped on Cabarita Avenue, and a 46-year-old man was arrested.
Three officers, including one from Traffic Highway Patrol Command sustained injuries during the arrest, where two of them were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital – they have since been released.
He was taken to Forster Police Station and charged with:
- use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road;
- Use uninsured motor vehicle on road, use vehicle on road or road related area motor vehicle tax not paid;
- Two counts of use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention;
- Three counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause aggravated bodily harm;
- Police pursuit – not stop -drive at speed;
- Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today (Saturday 2 November 2024).
