Two charged over alleged property and assault offences - Hunter Valley

A man and boy have been charged over several alleged property and assault offences in the Hunter Valley yesterday afternoon.

About 1pm yesterday (Thursday 14 November 2024), two males allegedly forced entry to several homes at Laguna before damaging and stealing various items.

About 3pm, a 78-year-old woman returned to her Laguna home when she was approached by a man who allegedly threatened her with a tomahawk and pushed her, causing abdominal pain.

The man allegedly caused extensive damage to her vehicle with the tomahawk, with the woman fleeing to nearby bushland for her safety.

A short time later, the males allegedly rammed parked a vehicle while driving on Blaxlands Arm Road, and police were subsequently called.

About 3.15pm, police attached to Hunter Valley Police District stopped the two males in their vehicle at Wollombi.

A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a tomahawk and several items believed to have been stolen.

A 44-year-old man and 15-year-old boy were arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station.

The man was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal, two counts of armed with intent to commit indictable offence, aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company damage property, common assault, and destroy or damage property.

He was refused bail to appear before Singleton Local Court today (Friday 15 November 2024).

The boy was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal, and aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company damage property.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Monday 9 December 2024.
