Woman charged after allegedly threatening drivers near Taree

A woman will face court today, charged over allegedly threatening drivers on the M1 Motorway.
About 4pm yesterday (Tuesday 26 November 2024), emergency services were called to the motorway at Koorainghat following reports of a concern for welfare.
Officers attached to Manning/Great Lakes Police District attended and located a woman standing on the roadway, allegedly armed with a large knife threatening other drivers and blocking traffic.
Police blocked the northbound lanes of the Pacific Highway and negotiated with the woman who allegedly threatened officers with the knife.
A Taser was used to effect the arrest of the 52-year-old woman.
The knife was seized by police.
The 52-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station, where she was charged with attempt stalk/intimidate intend fear of harm (personal), common assault, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and use knife in public place - cause person to fear for safety.
She was refused bail to appear before Taree Local Court today (Wednesday 27 November 2024).
