Woman charged after allegedly attempting to drown two children - Liverpool

A woman has been charged following an alleged attempt last year to drown two children in Sydney’s south west.
About 10.30am on Monday 11 September 2023, emergency services were called to Riverpark Drive, Liverpool, following reports of a concern for a welfare.
Officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command attended and found a woman had fallen from the Light Horse Bridge.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 36-year-old woman at the scene before she was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
About 12.50pm the same day, emergency services were called to the Georges River near Riverpark Drive, Liverpool, following reports of two children in the water.
Officers attended and were told two girls – aged seven and eight – had been rescued from the river by a passerby.
They were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for further assessments.
A crime scene was established, and investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
About 11.30am yesterday (Wednesday 27 November 2024), the now-37-year-old woman was released from hospital.
Following an extensive investigation, detectives arrested the woman before being taken to Liverpool Police Station, where she was charged with two counts of attempt to drown person with intent to murder (DV).
Police will allege in court the woman threw the two girls into the water.
She was refused bail and appeared before Liverpool Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 27 November 2024).
