A man has been charged following the alleged theft of solar panels valued at $1.2 million from his employer in Sydney’s west.

In August 2024, detectives from Mt Druitt Police Area Command commenced an investigation following a report from a local business that an internal audit had revealed nearly 8000 solar panels had been allegedly stolen from a warehouse at Minchinbury.

Between Tuesday 9 May 2023 and Friday 9 August 2024, 7894 residential solar panels were allegedly sold by an employee to third parties without his employers’ authority or knowledge.

Following inquiries, about 3.00pm on Friday 29 November 2024, investigators arrested a 37-year-old man at Mount Druitt Police Station.

He was charged with two offences – steal property as a clerk or servant – more than $15000 and dispose property – theft serious indictable offence – more than $5000.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Mount Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 18 December 2024.
