Six OMCG members and associates arrested following investigation into Marrickville shooting - Strike Force Orsino

Criminal Groups Squad detectives investigating the shooting of two men in Marrickville last year under Strike Force Orsino have arrested six alleged OMCG members and associates and executed 12 search warrants.
About 1.50pm on Friday 7 July 2023, emergency services were called to a business on Marrickville Road in Marrickville, after reports two men – aged 20 and 33 – had been shot.
Both men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital; with one man suffering serious injuries.
A short time later, emergency services responded to two burnt-out vehicles located in Marrickville and Dulwich Hill, which were treated as linked.
Crime scenes were established at all three locations, which were forensically examined by specialist officers.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command commenced initial inquiries before State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Orsino.
Strike force detectives investigating the shooting identified a criminal syndicate involved in various criminality including commercial drug supply, and kidnapping conspiracies.
From 6am yesterday (Thursday 5 December 2024), strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad, Central Metropolitan Region and South West Metropolitan Region Operational Support Groups, and the NSW Crime Commission – executed 12 search warrants in Mascot, Sans Souci, Hurstville, Dulwich Hill, Rosebery, Peakhurst, Carlton, Lakemba, Sydney and Broadbeach Waters in Queensland.
During the searches police located and seized $550,000 worth of luxury watches and jewellery, 8 motor vehicles and a motorcycle with a combined value of $500,000, over $25,000 in cash, $12,000 worth of prohibited drugs, multiple electronics and OMCG paraphernalia.
In Sans Souci, police arrested two men, aged 45 and 39. They was taken to St George Police Station, where the older man was charged with conspiracy to take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage, two counts of supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity, supply prohibited drug >= commercial quantity, fail to comply digital evidence access order direction and participate in a criminal group.
He was refused bail and appeared in Sutherland Local Court yesterday.
The younger man was charged with possess prohibited drug, possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance, fail to comply digital evidence access order direction, and two counts of participate in a criminal group. He was refused bail to appear in Sutherland Local Court today (Friday 6 December 2024).
At the Lakemba address, police arrested a 28-year-old man. He was taken to Campsie Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of dishonestly interfere/copy unique identifier and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction. He was granted conditional bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday 17 December 2024.
In Dulwich Hill, police arrested a 31-year-old man. He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he was charged with take part supply prohibited drug >= commercial quantity, organises/conducts/assists drug premises and participate in a criminal group. He was refused bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court today.
At the Broadbeach Waters address – with assistance from Queensland Police – strike force detectives arrested a 42-year-old man. He is expected to be extradited to Tweed Heads today, where he is expected to be charged with participating in a criminal group.
About 2pm, strike force detectives attended Burwood Police Station where they arrested a 47-year-old man. He was charged with two counts of shoot at with intent to murder, conspiracy to take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage, two counts of supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity, supply prohibited drug >= commercial quantity, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, knowingly direct activities of a criminal group, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm and common assault (DV).
He was refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court today (Friday 6 December 2024).
Police will be alleging the 47-year-old man was not the gunman, but a part of the joint criminal enterprise involved in the planning and carrying out of the shooting.
Simultaneous to these warrants – with assistance of Raptor Squad, Marine Area Command, PolAir, and the Forensic Evidence & Technical Services Command – Criminal Groups Squad detectives also conducted a search of bushland and surrounding waterways in Georges Hall as part of an investigation into the link between the Marrickville shooting and that of Marvin Oraiha in Elizabeth Hills on Monday 22 May 2023.
Investigations under Strike Force Orsino and Strike Force Hackenburg continue.
