Man charged with firearms offences; assault police - Moree

A man has been charged with numerous firearms offences and assaulting police in the state’s north early this morning.
About 2.45am (Wednesday 11 December 2024), officers attached to New England Police District responded to reports of a man with a firearm on Anne Street, Moree.
On arrival, officers arrested an 18-year-old man in a parking area on Frome Street, following a short foot pursuit.
Police will allege that during the arrest, the man bit an officer on the arm.
During a search of the man, police allegedly located and seized a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
The 18-year-old male was taken to Moree Police Station and charged with the following offences,
- deal with suspected proceeds of indictable crime,
- assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm,
- possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority,
- possess loaded firearm public place,
- possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority,
- hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and
- intimidate police officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear before Moree Local Court later today (Wednesday 11 December 2024).
