A man has been charged with the alleged murder of a woman in Bourke in October.

Officers from Central North Police District were called to Parkdale Road about 8am on Tuesday 29 October 2024, after the body of a 47-year-old woman was found outside a home. Police will allege the woman had suffered significant injuries.

Detectives commenced an investigation under Strike Force Akitio, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad. A crime scene was established at the home and a number of items seized.

A 49-year-old man – who was arrested at the home on the day the woman’s body was found – was subsequently charged on 6 November 2024 with wounding with intent (DV). He was refused bail after appearing in Bourke Local Court and remanded in custody to appear in Bourke Local Court on Thursday 23 January 2025.

Following the forensic analysis of items seized during the investigation and the results of the post-mortem examination, Detectives from Central North PD spoke to the 49-year-old man at a correctional facility at Sydney yesterday (Thursday 12 December 2024), before charging him with murder (DV).

That man remains in custody until his appearance in court on 23 January 2025.
