Two charged following pursuit - West Wyalong

Two people have been charged following a police pursuit in the state’s south yesterday.

About 1.50pm on Monday (16 December 2024) police attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command observed an allegedly stolen vehicle travelling on the Cobb Highway near Deniliquin.

Police attempted to the stop the vehicle and when it did not stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

Police commenced inquiries into the vehicle’s location.

Following inquiries, about 11.40am on Tuesday (17 December 2024), police located the vehicle at a service station on the Mid Western Highway, West Wyalong.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District, Griffith Traffic and Highway Patrol and PolAir, attended the location to arrest a 30-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman.

In an alleged attempt to leave the scene in the vehicle, the 30-year-old man hit multiple vehicles, including a police vehicle and a fuel bowser, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

The man and woman were arrested at the scene were both taken to West Wyalong Police Station.

The 30-year-old man was charged with two counts of police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, two counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner and two counts of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

The 33-year-old woman was issued a future court attendance notice for two counts of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and throw missile at police officer executing duty no actual bodily harm.

Both the man and woman are due to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 18 December 2024).

Police will allege in court during the pursuit, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly thew projectiles at police vehicles.
