Man charged after attempted break and enter and pursuit - Varroville

A man has been charged after an alleged attempted break and enter and pursuit in Sydney’s southwest this morning.
About 1.30am (Tuesday 31 December 2024), police responded to reports of a man attempting to gain entry to a home on Calaria Close, Edensor Park.
On arrival, officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command were told two people, believed to be armed with a firearm, left the scene in a Hyundai sedan.
Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A short time later, police observed the vehicle travelling on Cowpasture Road, Hinchinbrook.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
Police will allege an occupant of the vehicle fired shots at a police vehicle. No police officers were injured.
The vehicle then stopped on St Andrews Road, Varroville, following the successful deployment of road spikes about 1.50am.
The driver of the vehicle – a 20-year-old man – was arrested at the scene and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.
The male passenger fled the scene on foot.
During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized two pistols, an assault rifle, and other weapons. A number of spent cartridges were located and seized at the scene.
The vehicle was also seized for forensic examination.
Officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command were assisted by PolAir and other specialist police resources.
The 20-year-old man was charged with nine offences:
- special aggravated break & enter with intent- armed with dangerous weapon,
- take & drive conveyance without consent of owner,
- drive motor vehicle during disqualification period,
- police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly,
- possess unauthorised pistol,
- possess loaded firearm public place,
- possess unauthorised prohibited firearm,
- possess or use a military-style weapon without permit, and
- armed with intent commit indictable offence.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 1 December 2025).
Strike Force Andelys has been established to investigate the incident.
