Fatal light aircraft crash in state's north

Emergency services have responded to a fatal light aircraft crash on the state’s mid north coast today.

About 4.00pm (Saturday 4 January 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a light aircraft crash in the ocean, approximately 1.5 kilometres south-east of Nambucca Heads.

The pilot and passenger of the aircraft died at the scene and are yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Mid North Coast Police District attended and with assistance of the Marine Area Command have commenced an investigation into the circumstance surrounding the incident.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
