Man charged after armed robbery, pursuit - Gregory Hills

A man will face court charged over an alleged armed robbery and pursuit in Sydney’s southwest.
Just after 4am on Sunday (29 December 2024), officers attached to Riverstone Police Area Command were called to two service stations on Vardys Road, Kings Langley, following reports of an attempted armed robbery.
Police were told an unknown man allegedly entered the two service stations and threatened staff members with a knife; however, left on both occasions emptied handed.
No employees were injured during the incident.
About 4.50am, officers attached to The Hills Police Area Command were called to a service station on Norwest Boulevard, Bella Vista, following reports of an alleged armed robbery.
Police were told a man entered the service station and allegedly threatened the employees with a knife, before leaving with an amount of cash and cigarettes in a white Toyota sedan.
There were no reports of injuries.
About 11.30am on Monday (30 December 2024), the vehicle was located abandoned on Sackville Street, Seven Hills, which was seized for forensic examination.
Checks revealed the vehicle was allegedly stolen from an address in Blacktown on Friday (27 December 2024).
About 9.10am today (Thursday 9 January 2025), officers attached to The Hume Police District sighted a black Mazda hatchback parked in an underground carpark on the Old Hume Highway, Mittagong.
Police attempted to speak with the driver however it is alleged the driver accelerated towards police, crashing into a police car and leaving the scene.
There were no reports of injuries.
About 10.30am, officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command were patrolling on the Hume Highway, Blair Athol, when they sighted the vehicle.
Police attempted to stop the car; however, when it failed to stop as directed a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued towards Gregory Hills Drive, Gregory Hills, where the driver allegedly abandoned the car and left the scene on foot.
With assistance from PolAir, police located the 37-year-old man on the roof of a house on Kavanagh Street, Gregory Hills.
He was arrested and taken to Narellan Police Station where he was charged with
- Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (two counts)
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed
He was subsequently charged with two outstanding warrants related to offences at Kings Langley and Bella Vista:
- Robbery armed with offensive weapon (three counts)
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (two counts)
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Demand property with menaces with intent to steal, and
- Common assault.
He was refused bail to appear at Picton Local Court tomorrow (Friday 10 January 2025).
