Teens charged after school fire - Kempsey

Two teenagers have been charged after allegedly starting a fire in a school on the state’s north coast.
Between 2am and 5.30am today (Sunday 12 January 2025), two boys allegedly broke into a school on Broughton Street, West Kempsey.
Police will allege the boys, aged 13 and 14, entered a number of buildings on the school grounds where they stole items and damaged property.
Just before 6am, officers attached to Richmond Police District were notified of the incident and located the boys nearby.
They were arrested and taken Kempsey Police Station where they were charged with:
- Aggravated break and enter,
- Commit serious indictable offence,
- Two counts of damage or destroy property, and
- Intentionally mark premises without prescribed consent.
Both were granted bail and will appear at a children’s court on Wednesday 5 February 2025.
Police will allege in court the damage caused to the premises is worth more than $30,000.
