Two charged following break and enter on the South Coast - Operation Regional Mongoose

Police have charged a woman and teenager following an alleged break and enter on the South Coast, as part of Operation Regional Mongoose.

Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime, committed predominately by young offenders.

About 1am on Wednesday 8 January 2025, police were called to a home on Martin Close, Broulee, following reports of a break and enter.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District were told two people allegedly entered the home and stole a handbag containing car keys, before entering the garage and driving away in a vehicle.

While attempting to exit the garage, the vehicle allegedly crashed into a cement pillar and another car parked nearby.

The occupants of the home heard the disturbance and called tripled zero.

About 2am the same day, police were patrolling the Princes Highway, at North Batemans Bay, when they spotted the allegedly stolen vehicle travelling northbound.

A short time later, the vehicle was located Lincoln Crescent, where the driver allegedly ran from the vehicle.

The passenger, a 44-year-old woman, was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay, where she was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, possess housebreaking implements, good in personal custody suspected being stolen.

She was granted conditional bail to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday 20 January 2025.

Following extensive inquiries, about 2.20pm on Friday 10 January 2025, police executed as search warrant at a home in Moruya.

During the search, police allegedly located and seized mobile phone devices, a replica pistol, and cannabis.

A 17-year-old man was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated break and enter & commit serious indictable offence-people there, take & drive conveyance without consent of owner, receive/dispose stolen property- minor indictable offence less than or equal to $5000 and unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR.

The teen appeared before a children’s court on Saturday (11 January 2025) and was granted conditional bail to reappear at a children’s court on Friday 17 January 2025.
