Two men are in custody following an investigation into the alleged assault of two off-duty police officers in Sydney’s Inner West overnight.

Just after 11pm (Wednesday 22 January 2025), emergency services were called to Enmore Road, Newtown, following reports of a brawl.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended and found a 25-year-old man unconscious on the roadway.

An off-duty nurse performed CPR until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police have been told the injured man and a second man, both off-duty NSW Police Force officers, were walking along Enmore Road when they approached three men who were having an argument with each other.

The two off-duty officers were allegedly assaulted with one of them knocked to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked to the head.

The three men left the scene prior to police arrival.

The second man, also aged 25, suffered facial injuries and was also taken to hospital for treatment; however, has since been released.

A crime scene was established, and Inner West PAC detectives commenced an investigation into the incident under Strike Force Rabnor.

Following inquiries, police arrested two men – aged 18 and 20 – at a home in Mascot, about 3.20pm today (Thursday 23 January 2025).

They have been taken to Mascot Police Station.

Inquiries are continuing.
