A man has been arrested after a police monument was damaged in Sydney's Domain.
About 3.15am on Saturday 25 January 2025, the NSW Police Wall of Remembrance – dedicated to the memory of police officers killed in the line of duty – was significantly damaged by vandalism.
About 12pm yesterday (Sunday 26 January 2025), officers deployed as part of Australia Day celebrations, saw the damage and commenced an investigation.
A crime scene was established, which was forensically examined by specialist police.
Following investigations, about 2.25pm today (Monday 27 January 2025) a 43-year-old man was arrested at Glebe Light Rail station and taken to Day Street Police Station, where he is expected to be charged.
Police are working with Sydney City Council to assist with remedial works to repair the damage.
NSW Police encourages members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour around monuments and significant sights across the Australia Day Long Weekend.
