Man charged with outstanding warrants - Inverell

A man has been charged with multiple offences as part of Operation Candle.

Operation Candle is a New England Police District operation which commenced on Sunday, 1 December 2024 and targets domestic violence offenders with outstanding warrants for their arrest.

A 42-year-old man was identified as a target as he had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

About 10am on Friday 24 January 2025, the man was allegedly involved in a police pursuit at Inverell and was unable to be located following that pursuit.

About 11:30am on Tuesday 28 January 2025, the man’s vehicle was observed by police on Captain Cook Drive, Inverell.

Police pulled up near the vehicle where officers attempted to arrest him.

The man then allegedly attempted to escape out the passenger side door, but was arrested a short time later.

He was taken to Inverell Police Station where he was charged with:

  • Hinder police in the execution of their duty
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV)
  • Contravene prohibition in apprehended violence order (DV)
  • Outstanding warrants (two counts)
  • Police pursuit
  • Use class A vehicle displaying altered number plates

He was refused bail to appear before Moree Local Court today, Wednesday 29 January 2025
