A boy has been arrested for stealing in the state’s north.

About 9.45 pm yesterday (Friday 31 January 2025) police were patrolling Horseshoe Bay, South West Rocks after receiving information that an electric scooter had been stolen from a caravan park.

A short time later, a boy was allegedly seen riding the scooter. When he saw police, he dropped the scooter and ran down a steep embankment towards a creek.

He was located by an officer in the water, and arrested.

As the officer was leading him out of the water, the Senior Constable slipped on rocks and fell into the water.

As a result of slipping on the rocks the officer sustained minor cuts to the front of both his legs, however he did not require medical treatment.

The boy was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with receiving stolen property, goods in custody, and breaching bail.

He was refused bail to appear before a Children Court today, Saturday 1 February 2025
