Drugs seized, two charged after Inner West pursuit of stolen car

A man and woman are due to appear in court tomorrow charged after a pursuit through Sydney’s Inner West this morning.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command were patrolling Parramatta Road, Camperdown, shortly before 5am today (Saturday 1 February 2025), when they attempted to stop the driver of a white sedan for a random breath test.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued to Liverpool Street, Ashfield, where the car hit a curb.

The alleged male driver and female passenger were arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station.

When the vehicle was searched, police seized resealable plastic bags containing what is believed to be heroin and methylamphetamine (ICE). A bottle containing liquid believed to be gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) was also located in the vehicle.

Police will allege when the woman’s handbag was searched two more bottles of GHB were found, along with a knife and numerous bank cards.

Checks also revealed the vehicle was reported stolen last April from Peakhurst.

A 31-year-old man, from Bexley North, has now been charged with seven offences,

• Police pursuit not stop – drive dangerously

• Drive while licence cancelled

• Drive conveyance taken without consent

• Possess prohibited drug (two counts)

• Use vehicle displaying altered number plate, and

• Refuse to submit to oral fluid test.

The 31-year-old woman, from Hurstville, has been charged with five offences,

• Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner

• Supply prohibited drug (more than indictable/less than commercial quantity)

• Possess a prohibited drug

• Custody of knife in public place – subsequent offence, and,

• Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

They have both been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 2 February 2025).
