Two men have been seriously injured after their car crashed and caught fire 20km north-west of Bathurst earlier today.
Emergency services were called to Ophir Road, at Rock Forest, about midday (Sunday 2 February 2025), to find a car had hit a tree and caught on fire on impact, setting surrounding bushland alight.
The occupants were dragged from the burning vehicle by a man from a neighbouring property and who took them to a nearby home and rendered first aid.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the men, believed to be aged 19 and 62, for serious burns before the younger man was taken by road ambulance to Bathurst Airport where he was then airlifted to a Sydney hospital for further treatment.
The older man is believed to have been airlifted from the crash site to a Sydney hospital. Both are reported to be in a serious condition.
The scrub fire was extinguished by members of the local Rural Fire Service; however, the car was destroyed.
Officers from Chifley Police District have established a crime scene with officers attached to Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) enroute to the scene.
The road is currently closed.
