Man in court after alleged armed robberies - Inner West & Sydney Police Area Commands

A man will appear in court today charged after following alleged armed robberies in Newtown and Sydney.

On Monday (3 February 2025), officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command and Sydney City Police Area Commands commenced investigations following reports of armed robberies in Sydney and Newtown.

Police will allege about 11.20am the same day, a 41-year-old man attended a jewellery store on

Sussex Street, Haymarket, threatened staff before producing a firearm.

A short time later, the man allegedly entered a second jewellery store on King Street, Newtown, demanded jewellery from staff members before pouring an unknown liquid on the counter and threatening them with a firearm.

The man left the scene before police arrival.

There were no reports of stolen property.

There were no reports of injuries.

A crime scene was established and investigations commenced.

Following inquiries, police attended a home on Station Street, Newtown, and seized a replica handgun which will be forensically examined.

Following further inquiries, on Tuesday (4 February 2025), detectives from Inner West and Sydney City Police Area Commands, supported by the Central Metro Region Squad executed a search warrant at a home on Yenda Avenue, Queens Park.

About 6.45pm on Tuesday (5 February 2025), the man presented to Waverley Police Station where he was arrested.

He was charged with four offences, robbery while armed with dangerous weapon (two counts) and possess unauthorised pistol (two counts).

He was refused bail to appear before Waverley Local Court today (Wednesday 5 February 2025).
