UPDATE: Critical incident declared following fatal crash near Orange

A critical incident investigation has commenced following a fatal crash involving three motorcyclists near Orange today.
About 8.25am (Saturday 8 February 2025), officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District were called to the Mitchell Highway at Larras Lee – about 50km north of Orange – following reports of a single vehicle crash involving a heavy vehicle.
The driver suffered minor injuries.
Police remained at the scene waiting for the vehicle to be towed, when about 10.50am, a motorcyclist travelling nearby collided with another motorcyclist travelling ahead of him, causing him to fall off the motorbike.
A third motorcyclist travelling behind the two then collided with the rider who fell of his motorcycle.
The officers at the scene went to the assistance of the rider who fell off his motorcycle; however, he died at the scene.
He is yet to be formally identified; however, is believed to be aged in his 40’s.
The third rider – a 69-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The first rider – a 66-year-old man – was taken to Dubbo Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established with specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attending to examine the scene.
A critical incident investigation team from Chifley Police District will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation is also subject to an independent review.
