Man charged following brawl in South Granville

A man has been charged following an alleged brawl in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 5.40pm on Sunday 9 February 2025, emergency services were called to a reserve on Byrnes Street, South Granville, following reports of an alleged brawl involving between 30 and 40 people armed with knives, machetes and baseball bats.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended; however, the group dispersed on foot and in cars.

Police located a 28-year-old man with serious head injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Mons Street, South Granville, and taken to Auburn Police Station.

He was charged with affray and custody of knife in public place.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Monday 10 February 2025).
