Two charged over alleged property and drug offences - Newcastle

Two men have been charged following an investigation into stolen power tools near Newcastle.
About 2am on Tuesday 21 January 2025, a Toyota Hilux – containing a large amount of power tools – was stolen from a home on Donald Street, Hamilton North.
About 10am the same day, the vehicle was located in Brooks Street, Wallsend; however, all the power tools had been removed from the vehicle.
As part of inquiries by the Newcastle City Police District Proactive Crime Team, officers identified a premises of interest on Lewis Street, Wallsend.
About 9.30am on Friday 7 February 2025, a vehicle departed the Lewis Street address and was stopped by police a short time later.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police allegedly located and seized several power tools, believed to have been stolen.
A 35-year-old man was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, attempt dispose property - theft, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester, and learner driver not display "L" plates as prescribed.
He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 6 March 2025.
About 3pm the same day (Friday 7 February 2025), officers executed a search warrant at the home on Lewis Street.
During the search, police allegedly located and seized several stolen power tools, a gel blaster, and approximately 50g of methamphetamine.
A 36-year-old man was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with breach of bail, supply prohibited drug (greater then indictable and less than commercial quantity), possess unregistered firearm, and not keep firearm safely.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday 8 February 2025, where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Monday 17 February 2025.
