Man charged following pursuit in Sydney's west

A man has been charged following a pursuit in Sydney’s west last night.
About 8pm (Thursday 13 February 2025), police were patrolling the Heckenberg area when they sighted an allegedly stolen Toyota sedan driving on Cartwright Avenue.
Officers attached to Highway and Traffic Patrol Command directed the driver to stop; however, when the driver allegedly failed to stop a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
Shortly after the pursuit was terminated, the Toyota allegedly drove through a red traffic light and collided with a Lexus sedan, before hitting an electrical pole at the intersection of Humphries Road and Cabramatta Road, Bonnyrigg.
The occupants of the Lexus – including a three-year-old child – were uninjured during the crash.
The driver of the Toyota and the front passenger – a 23-year-old man – allegedly ran the scene on foot after the crash; however, they were arrested nearby on Cabramatta Road.
The driver of the Toyota – a 22-year-old man – was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.
The passenger – a 23-year-old man – was taken to Liverpool Police Station. He has since been released pending further inquiries.
The driver left hospital this morning and was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with:
- Drive conveyance taken w/o consent of owner
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen
- Not give particulars to other driver
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous-2nd+off, and
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road - prior offence.
The man was refused bail and will appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Friday 14 February 2025).
