Man charged over alleged fire - Albury

A man will appear in court today charged after a fire destroyed bushland in the state’s south overnight.

About 9.30pm yesterday (Sunday 16 February 2025), emergency services were called to Padman Park off Padman Drive, Albury, after reports of a grass fire.

The fire spread through bushland towards nearby houses and Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze with no damage to properties.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Following inquiries, a 62-year-old man was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread.

He was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Monday 17 February 2025).
