Man charged with allegedly threatening elderly woman and car theft - Orana Mid Western PD

A man will face court today after he allegedly broke into an elderly woman’s home before threatening her and stealing her car earlier this week.

About 12.45am yesterday (Thursday 20 February 2025), police were called to a home in Baradine – 46km northwest of Coonabarabran – following reports of a break and enter.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District arrived and were told an unknown man had allegedly broken into the home before threatening the homeowner – a 91-year-old woman – and stealing her car.

No injuries were reported from the incident.

A short time later, police located the allegedly stolen vehicle – a Toyota sedan – abandoned and damaged nearby.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, about 2pm the same day police arrested a 19-year-old man on Wellington Street, Baradine.

He was taken to Coonabarabran Police Station where he was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, demand property with menaces with intent to steal, and aggravated enter dwelling with intent knowing people there.

The man was refused bail to appear before Dubbo Local Court today (Friday 21 February 2025).
