A man and will appear in court today charged following an alleged pursuit in Sydney’s’ southwest overnight.

Just after 6.45pm (Monday 24 February 2025), officers attached to Campbelltown Traffic and Highway Patrol were patrolling Macquarie Fields, when they attempted to stop a Holden Commodore – reportedly stolen from a Victorian home on Monday – on Rosewood Drive.

The Holden failed to stop as directed and a pursuit was initiated, travelling through local streets before heading east on the M5. After exiting at Fairford Road, the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

Further police attended to assist, including PolAir who monitored the vehicle.

The Holden was abandoned on Trevone Street, Padstow and the driver was seen fleeing, jumping fences before entering the Georges River.

The man was monitored by police while he swam in the river before he returned to the bank and was arrested.

During a search of the Holden, police seized three sets of unlawfully obtained number plates and a knife.

The 33-year-old man was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment before being returned to Bankstown Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, and custody of knife in public place.

He was refused bail and will appear before Bankstown Local Court today (Tuesday 25 February 2025).
