Update regarding search for missing fisherman - Port Stephens

The search for a man missing from a recreational fishing vessel has been suspended.

About 1.35pm on Sunday 23 February 2025, emergency services were alerted that a man had fallen overboard about 1pm during a fishing competition.

Crews from the NSW Police Force Marine Area Command, PolAir, Marine Rescue NSW, and Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded to the area, about 55km off the Newcastle coast.

The search for the 58-year-old man continued during daylight hours on Sunday 23 February 2025, yesterday (Monday 24 February 2025), and today (Tuesday 25 February 2025).

Despite the efforts of searchers, the man has not yet been located, and the search was suspended at 5pm today and will not resume tomorrow (Wednesday 26 February 2025).
