Raptor Squad officers have charged five high-ranking Finks OMCG members and associates following an investigation into an alleged attempted aggravated break and enter in Newcastle last month.
About 1.50am on Sunday (23 February 2025), officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District were called to a home on Marian Place in Belmont North, following reports of a group of males attempting to force entry into the home.
Police attended and were told a number of unknown people had attempted to break into the address.
Witnesses also reported hearing a gunshot or gunshots.
A short time later, a 38-year-old man presented to hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Local police commenced initial inquiries, before the matter was referred to State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad under Strike Force Altvan.
Following extensive inquiries, about 6am yesterday (Thursday 13 March 2025), strike force officers arrested three men, aged 25, 26 and 29, at an address on the Hume Highway at Liverpool.
During a search of the unit, police located and seized Finks OMCG paraphernalia, mobile phones, and an Audi A5.
The men were taken to Liverpool Police Station, where the youngest man was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent-in company-not steal etc, affray, participate criminal group contribute criminal, conceal serious indictable offence (> 20yrs max) of other, and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.
The 26-year-old man was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent-in company-not steal etc, and conceal serious indictable offence (> 20yrs max) of other.
The 29-year-old man was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent-in company-not steal etc, affray, participate criminal group contribute criminal, conceal serious indictable offence (> 20yrs max) of other, owner not disclose identity of driver/passenger, and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.
The men were refused bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court today (Friday 14 March 2025).
About 6am yesterday, strike force officers arrested a 47-year-old man at an address in Moorebank.
During a subsequent search of the home, police located a cannabis plant and slingshot.
He was taken to Liverpool Police Station, where he was charged with cultivate prohibited plant <= small quantity and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday 19 March 2025.
Investigations continue into whether the 47-year-old man involved in the attempted break and enter at Belmont North.
About 6.20am yesterday, strike force officers arrested a 38-year-old man at John Hunter Hospital.
He was taken to Waratah Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent-in company-not steal etc, affray, fail to comply digital evidence access order direction and participate criminal group contribute criminal.
The man was refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court the same day.
Police will allege in court the men attempted in break in to the Belmont North home in what police believe was a targeted attack, before one of the men was shot.
Investigations under Strike Force Altvan continue.
