Newsagency employee held at knifepoint during attempted robbery - Canley Heights

Police are appealing for information after a newsagency employee was held at knifepoint during an attempted armed robbery in Canley Heights yesterday.
About 12.15pm (Wednesday 26 March 2025), police were called to a newsagency on St John Road, Canley Heights, following reports of an attempted armed robbery.
Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command arrived and were told an unknown man had threatened two women – aged 31 and 41 – with a knife and attempted to take money from the till.
Police were told during the robbery the man was unable to open the cash register and fled the scene.
Detectives have commenced an investigation into the incident and a crime scene was established.
As investigations continue, police have released CCTV of a man who detectives believe can assist with the investigation.
The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, and was last seen wearing a black jumper, black pants and carrying a black bag.
Following inquiries, police believe the man was last seen walking down St Johns Road before turning left onto Bold Street, Cabramatta West.
