A 32-year-old Victorian Police officer has been charged by NSW Police following an investigation by detectives attached to Surry Hills Police Area Command.
Strike Force Brierley was formed in March 2025 to investigate the alleged sexual assault of a 38-year-old woman in a hotel room in Surry Hills.
Following a referral from Victorian Police Sexual Offences and Family Violence Unit, Surry Hills detectives commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, yesterday (Tuesday 1 April 2025), Victorian Police arrested a 32-year-old man and executed a search warrant on behalf of NSW police at a house in Northeast Melbourne, Victoria.
The man, who was off duty at the time of the alleged offence, was charged with sexual intercourse without consent and appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today, where NSW Police formally applied for his extradition to NSW.
He was granted conditional bail by Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 3 April 2025.
