Police are appealing for information after six Wedge-tailed eagles were found dead on a property in the state’s south at the weekend.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District have been told an injured juvenile eagle was found on a property on Dollar Value Road, Eurongilly, about 22km south-east of Junee, last Saturday (5 April 2025).

The woman called WIRES who attended the property the following day (Sunday 6 April 2025) and – after further investigation – found six juvenile Wedge-tailed eagles were dead.

The eagles appear to have been died at different times and were moved to the paddock.

All birds – including the injured bird – were taken to a veterinary hospital; however, the injured eagle was later euthanized due to its injuries.

After examining the bodies, the vet told police the birds most likely died as a result of being shot.

The incident was reported to Riverina Police District on Tuesday 8 April 2025, and an investigation commenced.
