Man charged after pursuit, crash - Mt Druitt

A man has been charged after a pursuit and crash in Sydney’s west this morning.

Officers attached to Blacktown Police Area Command were on Hopman Crescent, Shalvey, about 9.15am (Wednesday 9 April 2025), when they attempted to stop the driver of an SUV for a random breath test.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated near Jersey Road/Stuart Street a short time later due to safety concerns; however, the vehicle continued to be monitored by PolAir.

About 20 minutes later – when the SUV was caught in traffic at the intersection of the Great Western Highway near Carlisle Avenue, Minchinbury – the driver allegedly hit a civilian vehicle and an unmarked police vehicle.

The alleged driver of the SUV, a 36-year-old Parkes man, was arrested after a Taser and OC was deployed.

He was taken to Mount Druitt Hospital for assessment.

A crime scene was established and an investigation commenced.

There were no injuries to the occupant of the civilian vehicle.

Upon release from the hospital, the man was taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty and supply prohibited drug.

An outstanding warrant was also executed for stealing offences.

He was refused bail to appear before Penrith Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 10 April 2025).
