Man charged with multiple driving offences following pursuit, crash - Picnic Point

A man will face court today following a crash in Sydney’s west over the weekend.
About 5:30pm on Saturday 12 April 2025, officers attached to St George Police Area Command stopped a BMW SUV on Belmore Road, Riverwood, for a random roadside breath test.
The 21-year-old driver allegedly returned a positive result; however, when police attempted to arrest him, he drove away hitting a police officer.
Police immediately commenced a pursuit; however, it was terminated a short time later for safety reasons.
A short time later, police found that the SUV had crashed into a Ford Utility on River Road, Picnic Point.
The driver – a 39-year-old man – and three passengers – a 32-year-old woman, a 2-year-old girl and an 11-month-old baby – were all treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
The 21-year-old driver was also treated at the scene before being taken to St George Hospital under police guard.
The police officer was assessed but did not require further treatment.
Following inquiries, the 21-year-old man was taken to Kogarah Police Station yesterday (Sunday 13 April 2025), and charged with:
- Assault Police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm (two counts)
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
- Hinder Police office administer fluid test/take sample
- Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention
- Disobey no entry sign-motor vehicle
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
- Hinder or resist Police officer in the execution of duty
- Possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs
- Possess prohibited drug
- Custody of a knife in a public place
He was refused bail to appear before Sutherland Local Court today (Monday 14 April 2025).
