Man charged following multiple alleged aggravated break and enters - Armidale

A man has been charged following multiple alleged aggravated break and enter incidents in the state’s north last week.

About 8.45pm on Thursday 17 April 2025, officers attached to New England Police District were called to a home on Butler Lane, Armidale, with reports of a home invasion.

Police arrived and were told by the occupant – a man in his 70s – that an unknown man had entered the property before accessing a shed, leaving behind a backpack and other items.

About 8.50pm the same day, police were called to another home in Armidale – on Markham Street – with reports of an attempted home invasion. Officers arrived and were told by the occupant – a man in his 30s – that the occupant’s bins had allegedly been searched, fence broken and flyscreen removed from a window.

About 10.10pm the same day, officers were called to a third home in Armidale – on West Avenue – with reports of a break and enter, and were told by the occupant – a woman in her 20s – that an unknown person was still on the premises.

Police arrived shortly after to find a 35-year-old man allegedly searching through handbags and other items inside the home, after he allegedly forced entry through a window at the rear of the home.

Officers arrested the man and took him to Armidale Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there.

He was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Friday 18 April 2025, where he was granted conditional bail to appear before Armidale Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 23 April 2025).
