Appeal for information following assault - Lake Macquarie

Investigators are appealing for information following an assault on a shared path at Lake Macquarie earlier today.

Shortly after 8am today (Wednesday 23 April 2025), police were called to the Fernleigh Track at Whitebridge following reports of an assault.

At the scene, police were told a woman was running along the track when she was grabbed by a man from behind, causing them both to fall.

The woman screamed and the man ran from the scene – he was last seen heading south on the Fernleigh Track.

He is described as being of slim build, about 170cm tall, and was last seen wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, long black pants, a face covering and gloves.

As a result of the incident, the woman sustained grazing; however, did not require medical treatment.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District patrolled the area; however, the man was not located.

An investigation into the incident has commenced with proactive police patrols of the area continuing.

Criminal offences as well as anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated by police, and police urge anyone who sees suspicious, anti-social or illegal behaviour to come forward.
