Traffic enforcement in state's Central West - Operation Crossroads

NSW Police are reminding drivers about their responsibility to drive safely on our roads.
Operation Crossroads was conducted from 6am on Thursday 23 May 2024 until 7pm on Monday 27 May 2024 in the state’s Central West.
The Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, together with local police, conducted a traffic enforcement operation targeting all elements of dangerous driving, including speeding and driving under the influence.
During the operation, 722 breath tests were conducted resulting in three drivers charged with exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol, 108 drug tests with seven drivers returning a positive result, and 98 infringements issued for speeding.
Inspector Jason Bush of Traffic and Highway Patrol’s Western Plains Sector, commended road users for their behaviour.
“It was pleasing that there were no serious crashes in the areas where the operation was running.” Inspector Bush said.
“Police will continue to conduct similar operations throughout the region to ensure road users are safe.
“Nevertheless, it is still disturbing to see motorists who are driving under the influence of alcohol and illicit drugs.
Some items of interest included:
- About 10am, Saturday 25 May 2024 a 28-year-old man from Oberon was detected driving on the Mitchell Highway, Dubbo, at 135km/h in t 110km/h zone. The driver produced a NSW Provisional P1 driver licence which restricted his speed limit to 90km/h. At the time he had two juvenile passengers in the vehicle aged 16 and 4 years old. He was issued penalty notices for the speeding offence, and also for not displaying P Plates. His Provisional licence was suspended for a period of 3 months.
- About 4pm Sunday 26 May, 2024 a 19 year old man was stopped riding his motorcycle on the Mitchell Highway, Dubbo for a breath test that returned a negative reading. Inquiries established the was the holder of a disqualified learner’s licence until June 2024. He was issued a court attendance notice for drive disqualified – 2nd offence and is due to appear at Dubbo Local Court on 19 June 2024.
- About 1.55pm on Saturday 25 May 2024, a 28-year-old driver – with an infant passenger – was subjected to a roadside drug test in Wellington, which allegedly returned a positive result. Enquiries also revealed the woman did not hold a driver’s license. She was taken to Wellington Hospital for further testing, with police to await results.
