Man dies after falling from vehicle - Chinderah

A man has died after falling from a vehicle on the states far north coast overnight.

Emergency services were called to the Pacific Motorway, about 4km south of the Tweed Valley Way exit, Chinderah, about 6.30pm (Wednesday 29 May 2024) after a man fell from a vehicle onto the roadway.

The man – aged in his 20s – was a passenger in a Mercedes when he fell from the car and was struck by a passing motorist.

The man was assisted by members of the public; however, he died at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes – a 27-year-old man – was subjected to a roadside breath test which allegedly returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis, which allegedly returned a reading of 0.074.

He was given an infringement notice for low range PCA and taken to Tweed Valley Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Tweed-Byron Police District established a crime scene as specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
